Reliability, Utility and Satisfaction – and DITA

Ellis Pratt of CherryLeaf posted an thought provoking article on his blog. He wonders why most Technical Writers focus on Reliability and Utility but neglect Satisfaction. He quoted Paul Mijksenaar (can’t say I know about his work) who argued good documentation requires all three. Personally, satisfaction is most important. And it caused me to wonder what tools like DITA and other types of systems are doing to how Techncial Writers develop their products. I have some reservations with these systems in that they force tech writers to disconnect content with layout, which of course is their goal. However, don’t they just
